King Cugat

The day before the 1999 Breeders' Cup at Gulfstream Park, Centennial Farms' King Cugat finished his two year old season with a length and three-quarter victory in the Prized Stakes. In 2000, he continued his winning ways, taking the Crown Royal American Turf S. (G3T) and the Jefferson Cup Stakes at Churchill Downs.

Most recently, sent off at odds of 1-20, King Cugat defeated four others in the Arlington Classic S. (G2T) on the same day another Mott-trainee, Down the Aisle, won the United Nations H. (G1T) at Monmouth Park.

Named for the legendary band leader, Xavier Cugat, King Cugat is just one of several top runners sired by Kingmambo, who this year is represented by group and graded stakes winners King's Best (Eng-I), Bluemambo (Fr-I), Kingsalsa (Fr-III), American Boss (Jpn-III) as well as the rejuvenated Lemon Drop Kid, recent winner of the Suburban H. (G2).
