Richter Scale Richter Scale is six years old, has run 24 times and won exactly half his starts. The Frank J. DeFrancis Memorial Dash (G1) was a day of firsts: Richter Scale become a new millionaire with his victory, he won his first Grade 1 and it was also the first Grade One victory for his trainer, Mary Jo Lohmeier. And just to make sure everyone remembers him, Richter Scale left town holding the Laurel Park track record for 6 furlongs at 1:07 4/5. Since returning to dirt sprints in October, Richter Scale won four in a row before being derailed in the 1-mile Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont in which he finished 6th, 10-1/2 lengths behind the winner, Yankee Victor. Richter Scale is a California-bred son of Habitony, as is Best Pal, and they are further related through the mare, Ubetido. His goal this year will be the Breeders' Cup Sprint, a race in which he has run in twice before with little success. Third time's a charm? |
