Unbridled b.h. 1987 Fappiano-Gana Facil, by Le Fabuleux
A stakes winner at two, Unbridled blossomed at three winning the Florida Derby (G1), the Kentucky Derby (G1) and closed out the year with a victory in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). He was voted the Champion Three Year Old Colt in 1990. In all, Unbridled made 24 starts and was victorious in eight. His 6 seconds and 6 thirds were all in stakes races, and he earned $4,489,475 during his career. He is the older full brother of Cahill Road, winner of the Wood Memorial (G1) and sire of 6 stakes winners in four crops to race.
In his first crop, Unbridled sired Unbridled's Song, who as the winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, automatically became the early favorite for the Kentucky Derby the following year. In fact, Unbridled's Song did enter the starting gate as the favorite, but it was Unbridled's lesser known son, Grindstone, who defeated Cavonnier by a nose, winning the 1996 Kentucky Derby, with the controversial Unbridled's Song finishing fifth, beaten about 4 lengths.
Unbridled's daughter, Banshee Breeze, is a multiple Grade 1 winner capturing the Coaching Club American Oaks and Alabama. In addition to her second in the Kentucky Oaks (G1), she was closing strongly on the older and very accomplished Escena in the 1998 Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1), only to miss by a nose, and she is one of the finalists for the 1998 Three Year Old Filly Eclipse Award. Unbridled is also the sire of another very talented filly, the West Coast-based Manistique, who was third in Banshee Breeze's Alabama Stakes.
Unbridled has sired seven other stakes winners and his runners have earned in excess of $7 million. For the year 1998, Unbridled finished 40th on the Leading Sires Ranked by Earnings with $2,980,564 and Banshee Breeze was his leading earner with $1,425,980.
