John Henry - (75) Ole Bob Bowers-Once Double, by Double Jay

At five, voted the Champion Turf Male, John Henry won major turf events around the country. However, in 1981, he showed his versatility and not only won the Arlington Million, Oak Tree Invitational, San Luis Rey and Hollywood Invitational on turf, but also was victorious on the main track as well in the Jockey Club Gold Cup and Santa Anita Handicap. His efforts were rewarded with year-end divisional honors in the Older Male and Turf Male categories and was voted Horse of the Year.

The following year, he won the Santa Anita Handicap and earned a third straight victory in the Oak Tree Invitational, again exhibiting his dirt-turf capabilities.

Back again at age 8, John Henry won the Hollywood Invitational (for the third time) and the American Handicap and placed in the Oak Tree Invitational and Budweiser Million.

John Henry returned to the races at age 9 and once again, toured the country winning the premier turf events at five different racetracks:

Voted the Champion Turf Male for the fourth time, he again earned Horse of the Year honors.
